Mix it up with Cement Tiles in Commercial Design

Posted by William Buyok on

Last week we looked at how Cement Tile Provides a French Bistro with a Classic Look. The bistro's owner, Sally Kane, used fresh, cool colors that honor the classic Fleur-de-Lis pattern but avoids following slavish tradition. This week, Sally invites us back to her French-inspired restaurant, The Coronet. The encaustic tiles are fun and have a bit of sas! She mixes it up using a bold, geometric pattern in the bathroom that is eye-catching and still classy.

Encaustic cement tiles have an amazing ability to adapt. Here a common color palette keeps the theme. However, commercial spaces can be designed to really "pack a unique punch" by mixing up pattern styles in distinct areas. Commercial bathrooms are one place that you shouldn't be afraid to be bold in your design choices and colors. The space is contained and really provides a unique, separate experience for the customer. The geometric pattern is very contemporary but it works with well the design of the space.

The Geometric Diamond Pattern was the choice for the bathroom
Avente's Geometric Diamond cement tile pattern in custom colors was the choice for the restaurant's bathrooms.

You can see how well it all works together, when there is a vision to the design. The Traditional French floor tile in cool Misty Jade with hints of bold Peapod set against a complex Pearl Grey and defining Jet Black. The Jet Black, Misty Jade, and Peapod are used in the Diamond cement tile pattern and they work well with Grey Venetian Plaster walls. I am very impressed with Sally's effortless ability to have all the details of the design flow together.

Bold colors get patrons talking about a restaurant's design. Applying those bold colors to an encaustic cement tile pattern in a small, separate space, like a restroom, is a great way to showcase creative design that even the pattern-shy will admire. Remember, the colors don't need to match exactly and don't be afraid to mix up class and contemporary patterns for a more fun, relaxed feel. Regardless of the tile pattern, the look of cement tile will be appreciated for decades as the cement tiles develop a satin look or patina that will only get better with age and wear.

Dramatic results are achieved with the right color choices, regardless of the tile's pattern. Cement tile can be customized with scores of different colors from the existing palette - or we can match a color to your specifications. Go ahead, have some fun and mix up the pattern choices for a design that really stands out. Our design ideas and Buying Guide are a great way to start. Best of all, they are free!
